What is the effect of pCO2 on oxygen transport? | NCERT solution | Class 11 Biology | Unit-17 Breathing and exchange of gases

Q.8:- What is the effect of pCO2 on oxygen transport?

Answer:

Binding of oxygen with haemoglobin is mainly related to the partial pressure of O2. Partial pressure of CO2, hydrogen ion concentration and temperature are the other factors which can interfere with this binding. Increased partial pressure of CO2 can increase haemoglobin’s affinity towards oxygen and vice-versa is also true.
